Through Faith – Feb. 5th, 2023

150 150 Charles Su

Romans 4:13-15

13 For the promise to Abraham and his offspring that he would be heir of the world did not come through the law but through the righteousness of faith. 14 For if it is the adherents of the law who are to be the heirs, faith is null and the promise is void. 15 For the law brings wrath, but where there is no law there is no transgression.

Through Faith

We are saved by grace through faith. Even though we have the law, it is pointing us to putting out faith in Christ. We will never completely uphold the law or even completely know the law. Paul later talks about Abraham’s faith being counted to him as righteousness. Abraham didn’t have the law. The law didn’t come until the time of Moses. It is by faith that we trust in God and His grace and His mercy.

Through Tribulation – Jan 29th, 2023

150 150 Charles Su

Acts 26:6-8

And now I stand here on trial because of my hope in the promise made by God to our fathers,

to which our twelve tribes hope to attain, as they earnestly worship night and day. And for this hope I am accused by Jews, O king!

Why is it thought incredible by any of you that God raises the dead?

Hope through Tribulation

As we come off last week where Jesus talked about the tribulation that we will face, we see an example of Paul facing tribulation. He’s on trial for having hope in God that should be shared by is kinsmen. But, he’s on trial for possibly his life and he uses it as an opportunity to point people to God and Jesus.

A Response of Worship – Jan. 22nd, 2023

150 150 Charles Su

Nehemiah 8:6

And Ezra blessed the Lord, the great God, and all the people answered, “Amen, Amen,” lifting up their hands. And they bowed their heads and worshiped the Lord with their faces to the ground.

A Response of Worship

After Ezra read the law, the people’s response was to bow their heads and worship. The Israelites are coming out of a time of exile and in this passage and seem to be returning to the Lord. This mirrors what we do on a Sunday’s. We come and we respond to the truth of God’s word with worship and prayer. Some people might be coming from metaphorical exile. Others might be knowledgable about the law but, how often are you responding with worship. Let us aim for our response to God’s promises and works to be worship.

Prayer of the People – January 15th, 2022

150 150 Charles Su

Nehemiah 1:10-11

10 They are your servants and your people, whom you have redeemed by your great power and by your strong hand. 11 O Lord, let your ear be attentive to the prayer of your servant, and to the prayer of your servants who delight to fear your name, and give success to your servant today, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man.”

Prayer of the People

As we come off a week of prayer, we have been asking God to work this passage from Nehemiah is a part of our bible reading. We have assurance that God has redeemed us but, we still seek his mercy everyday. God is our help and our keeper in a broken world.

“Unique” – Jan 8th, 2023

150 150 Charles Su

Acts 4:7-12

And when they had set them in the midst, they inquired, “By what power or by what name did you do this?”

Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, “Rulers of the people and elders,

if we are being examined today concerning a good deed done to a crippled man, by what means this man has been healed,

10 let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth,

whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead—by him this man is standing before you well.

11 This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone.

12 And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”

In this passage, people are asking by what power Peter performed a miracle and the answer is Jesus. But, the manner in which he describes Jesus is interesting. He doesn’t describe him as some powerful king that has been well respected. He describes him as a man who was rejected, shamed, and killed by the people he came to save. To them he has become, the cornerstone and sole salvation. It may not be novel to you to marvel at the unique nature and character of God but, take some time to meditate on it this week.

Revelation 19:1-2

After this I heard what seemed to be the loud voice of a great multitude in heaven, crying out,

Salvation and glory and power belong to our God,
    for his judgments are true and just;
for he has judged the great prostitute
who corrupted the earth with her immorality,
and has avenged on her the blood of his servants.”

Hebrews 11:1-3

Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.

For by it the people of old received their commendation.

By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible.

Hebrews 4:14-16

14 Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.

15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.

16 Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

2 Timothy 4:6-8

For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure has come.

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.

Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing.
