For who is greater, the one who reclines at table or one who serves?
Is it not the one who reclines at table?
But I am among you as the one who serves.
Humility in Leadership
In this passage, Jesus flips the preconceived notion of what make someone great. Instead of one’s power or stature, the defining factor is one’s willingness to serve. This points out one of Jesus’ great character traits; his humility. Jesus humbled himself to the point of death on a cross so, that our sins would be forgiven. It’s because of his great love for us and through his leadership. That’s why we’re called to be disciples of him and to follow him.
