Worship is a response to the revelation of Jesus Christ through his word.  This is an opportunity to take some time to look at a passage of scripture and how the songs we will sing this Sunday are a response to that truth.  The songs will be linked below but, you can also listen to them on our Spotify Playlist.

Psalm 62:5-8

For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from him.

He only is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be shaken.

On God rests my salvation and my glory; my mighty rock, my refuge is God.

Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us.

Praise God! He is our Refuge! (v. 7-8)

Be Thou My Vision

“On God rests my salvation and my glory; my mighty rock, my refuge is God. Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us.”

God is a refuge for us! We can trust him at all times! We don’t need the world’s wisdom (“Be thou[God] my wisdom, and thou my true word”), its riches and praise (“Riches I head not nor man’s empty praise”), or is promises (“May I reach heaven’s joys, O bright heaven’s sun”). We find all of these things in God. Our Salvation! Our Glory! Our mighty rock! Our Refuge!

Praise God! He is our Strength! (v. 5-6)

Cornerstone

“For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from him. He only is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be shaken.”

We will not be shaken because God is our rock, our salvation, and our fortress. We have confidence and strength not from our own power but through his power (“Christ alone cornerstone, weak made strong in the Savior’s love”). We trust in Him alone. Our Hope is in Him alone.

Devotional Questions

  1. What is your refuge? Who/What do you turn to for hope?
  2. Are you relying on God’s strength or your own?
