Grow in 2017 – Memorizing Scripture

You know all those commercials for brain games? Your brain can do more than ‘you think’. Getting a routine of Scripture memory going and then reviewing what you’ve memorized is hard to start, but like most great things that are hard to start, the rewards are significant.

Scripture Typer

CJ Davis, our worship leader, Scripture memorizer, and app junkie has used multiple Scripture memory apps and came back to this one. You can customize it for what you want/need to memorize. Then, it will quiz you. Just think what could happen if once a day, rather than opening Instagram (again), you opened Scripture Typer?

Go in Power church-wide memory verses

Our year theme this year is “Go in Power” and once thing we’re doing is memorizing a verse per month. Early this month, a couple came to Christ while I had them recite Ephesians 2:8-10. They realized that grace is a gift, cannot be earned, they stopped trying and trusted Christ for forgiveness and salvation. Acts 1:8, John 3:16-17, Ephesians 2:8-10, Isaiah 9:6, Romans 6:23, Ecclesiastes 3:11, Romans 10:9, Isaiah 53:4-6, 2 Corinthians 5:17, Romans 5:8, John 14:6, John 5:24.

Fighter Verses App

Desiring God produced this great app which gives you a verse per week. I love the title. Fight what you’re battling (your sin, flesh, the world, Satan) with Scripture!

10, 10, 2

Maybe you’re not an app person. Maybe you like the old school way. Read it 10 times, speak it 10 times, write it 2 times. Review periodically.

Every-single-day, the Spirit brings to mind a verse I’ve memorized that I need to preach to myself to keep me out of trouble or to aim me in a particular direction or decision.

Will you choose and app or sharpen your brain by memorizing the Go in Power verses? Either way, make a plan and hide God’s Word in your heart in 2017!
